The Gandey Assembly constituency is seeing a fierce election this year as Kalpana Soren, the wife of Chief Minister Hemant Soren is contesting against grassroot leader Muniya Devi, who is running on a BJP ticket. Since 1977, the JMM has secured the Gandey constituency six times while BJP and Congress emerged victorious twice.
The Jharkhand Assembly elections concluded with a high voter turnout of 68.01% while Gandey witnessed an impressive participation of 73.36% voting.

In January this year, the sitting MLA from Gandey, JMM’s Sarfaraz Ahmed, left the seat for Kalpana Soren’s poll debut. Kalpana Soren bagged her maiden victory in May 2024, defeating then-BJP candidate Dilip Kumar Verma by over 26,000 votes. The candidacy in Gandey is important as the outcome will impact the JMM’s influence in the region.
While Muniya Devi is new to the Assembly elections, in 2011 she was elected to a District Council member. While Kalpana entered politics after Hemant Soren was arrested in January 2024 by the ED in a land case.
