Korha Election Result 2025: BJP’s Kavita Devi Defeats INC’s Punam Kumari
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive victory in the Korha Assembly constituency of Katihar district, with sitting MLA Kavita Devi winning the seat once again with a commanding lead.
Devi polled 123495 votes, defeating her closest rival, Punam Kumari (Punam Paswan) of the Indian National Congress (INC), who secured 101238 votes. The victory margin stands at 22,257 votes, firmly cementing the BJP’s hold on this Scheduled Caste–reserved constituency.
Korha, which went to the polls on November 11, witnessed a highly active multi-party contest featuring the BJP, INC, BSP, Jan Suraaj Party, and independent candidates. Despite the broad field, the primary fight remained between the BJP and Congress, both of whom had high expectations from this politically significant seat.
Kavita Devi, who first won Korha in 2020 with an impressive margin of 28,943 votes, strengthened her position even further in the 2025 assembly polls. Congress candidate Punam Kumari, who was the runner-up in 2020, attempted to close the gap but could not overcome the BJP’s strong grassroots presence and Devi’s consistent local connect.
Other contenders, including Nirmal Kumar Raj of Jan Suraaj Party (4,028 votes) and Ravindra Kumar of the BSP (1,469 votes), failed to pose a substantial challenge, indicating a clear voter preference for mainstream party leadership this election cycle.
Korha has a dynamic political legacy, previously swinging between the BJP and Congress across decades. The constituency has seen influential leaders like Bhola Paswan Shastri, Sita Ram Das, Mahesh Paswan and Vishwanath Rishi. However, the 2025 result once again consolidates the BJP’s dominance in the region.
