Korha Election Result 2025 Live Update: Will BJP’s Kavita Devi Keep The Seat In A Multi-Party Fight?
Counting of votes has begun in the Korha Assembly constituency of Katihar, and anticipation is high as the first trends of the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections are expected soon. Korha, a Scheduled Caste reserved seat, went to the polls on November 11 and has seen an active contest involving the major political parties, including the BJP, INC, BSP, and JSP and IND.
The central question today is whether the BJP can hold its ground in this constituency or whether the INC or another major party can make inroads.
Leading the contest is Kavita Devi of the BJP, who is aiming to retain the seat she won in 2020. The Congress has fielded Punam Kumari, also known as Punam Paswan, who finished as the runner-up last time.
The seat also has participation from Jan Suraaj Party’s Nirmal Kumar Raj, along with Independent and smaller party candidates, but the primary spotlight remains firmly on BJP, INC and BSP as voter expectations converge around the major political formations.
Korha has a long and evolving political history, marked by shifts in party dominance. In the 2020 Assembly Election, Kavita Devi of the BJP emerged victorious with a strong margin of 28,943 votes, while Congress candidate Punam Kumari secured 75,682 votes.
Earlier years saw a mixed trend, with victories for the BJP in 2000 and 2010, and wins for the Congress in 2005 and 2015. The constituency has witnessed leadership from figures like Bhola Paswan Shastri, Sita Ram Das, Mahesh Paswan, and Vishwanath Rishi, reflecting a dynamic legacy of political competition.
Bihar recorded a 57.3 per cent voter turnout this year, slightly higher than the 2020 numbers. With both the NDA and the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan expressing confidence in achieving a clear statewide mandate, the results from key seats like Korha will play an important role in shaping the broader political picture.
Korha is also part of the Purnia Lok Sabha constituency, adding weight to the assembly outcome in terms of regional alignment.
