Biggest Crypto Theft In India; WazirX Loses $230 Million

The reports suggest that the company has lost almost $230 million around half of its current assets $500 million as per June's financial disclosure.

WazirX, a Mumbai-based crypto exchange has stopped transactions from the platform after experiencing a major hacking threat. WazirX is one of the biggest crypto exchanges in India and the company has confirmed that they suffered hacking attacks in early European hours on Friday.

According to  Blockchain sleuth Elliptic,  It was said that the North Korea-linked hackers were found as the culprits behind the attack. The hack was befell by providing access to the wallet’s private key. This key stores a large number of assets, to a malicious contract used to upgrade a safe multi-sig wallet. The reports suggest that the company has lost almost $230 million around half of its current assets $500 million as per June’s financial disclosure. This is marked as one of the biggest crypto larcenies in recent years.

WazirX parted ways from Binance the previous year on account of a dispute befell in 2022. It began after 2 years when Binance disclosed that it had acquired WazirX and the company said that the deal wasn’t made on good terms and hence it laid off  WazirX halting business with this Indian company.
