This time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded Shivesh Ram from Bihar”s Sasaram constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. BJP surprised even its own workers by fielding Ram, as he was given ticket by replacing Chhedi Paswan, who has been elected to the parliament from Sasaram for the last two Lok Sabha elections.
Shivesh Ram has a long history with BJP. His family was also affiliated to the party, and it was his father, Munni Lal, who the Sasaram seat first time for BJP in 1996. Ram can be considered a grassroot worker of the BJP. He has been serving the party for a long time and has held posts ranging from being a common worker to the MLA and State General Secretary.
Expressing his happiness over receiving ticket to contest for the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Ram voiced confidence in winning the seat. While talking to media, he said he is not concerned about who is contesting against him and BJP will contest the election strongly. Expressing his gratitude over receiving the ticket, Ram said, “I thank the BJP high command for giving a chance to a worker like me to contest the Lok Sabha elections. Grassroots workers are promoted in BJP.
Shivesh Ram is contesting against Congress” Manoj Ram. Earlier, there were speculations that Meira Kumar will contest from the seat for yet another term. However, the grand old party opted to field another candidate. Meira Kumar has served as the MP of Sasaram for two terms. The Sasaram constituency, which is reserved for the Scheduled Caste has been a bastion Congress. Meira Kumar”s father, Babu Jagjivan Ram was elected as the MP for eight consecutive times from 1952 to1984.
