Kerala HC Quashes Ivory Ownership Certificates Issued To Mohanlal By Govt, Calls It 'illegal'
Kochi, Kerala: The Kerala High Court on Friday, October 24, called the ownership certificates for possessing ivory issued by the state government to actor Mohanlal illegal. The Court quashed the certificates while terming them unenforceable in law.
However, the court maintained that the State Government is at liberty to issue a fresh notification in terms of Section 44 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 for conferring the immunity and benefits under the said provision as per the statutory scheme.

Notably, the court struck down the Government Orders and ownership certificates issued in 2016 to the actor by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Wildlife.
During the hearing, a Division Bench comprising Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice Jobin Sebastian ruled that the order is void, and therefore the certificates are also “illegal and unenforceable.”
