Mrunal Thakur–Bipasha Basu Row Ends: Actress Issues Apology Over ‘Manly Muscles’ Remark
The much-talked-about row between Mrunal Thakur and Bipasha Basu has seemingly come to an end after Mrunal issued a heartfelt apology for her resurfaced “manly muscles” comment on the Bollywood star.
The younger actress admitted that her words as a teenager were careless and acknowledged the hurt they may have caused, stressing that she never intended to body-shame Bipasha, without naming her directly.

In her note, Mrunal wrote: “19-year-old me as a teenager said many silly things. I didn’t always understand the weight of my voice or how much words, even in jest, could hurt. But it did, and for that I am deeply sorry. My intent was never to body-shame anyone. It was playful banter in an interview that went too far. But I understand how it came across, and I truly wish I had chosen my words differently. With time, I’ve grown to appreciate that beauty comes in every form, and that’s something I truly value now.”
The controversy began when an old video from Mrunal’s Kumkum Bhagya days resurfaced online. In it, she joked with co-star Arjit Taneja, quipping: “Do you want to marry a girl who is manly with muscles? Go marry Bipasha. Listen, I am far better than Bipasha, okay?”

Fans of Bipasha Basu slammed the comment, praising the actress for being a fitness icon who broke stereotypes and celebrated strength. Social media was flooded with messages.
Without naming Mrunal, Bipasha responded with an empowering Instagram story: “Strong women lift each other up. Get those muscles, beautiful ladies… we should be strong… muscles help you attain good physical and mental health forever! Bust the age-old thought process that women should not look strong or be physically strong!”
Her dignified stance resonated widely, and now, with Mrunal’s apology, the chapter between the two actresses appears closed.
