Sangeetha Files Divorce Petition Against Actor Vijay? Here's What We Know So Far
Sangeetha Sornalingam, the wife of actor-politician Vijay, has filed a divorce petition before a family court in Chengalpattu District, as per the reports.
According to the petition filed under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, Sangeetha has sought dissolution of their marriage, citing “persistent mental cruelty, neglect and desertion.” The matter is likely to come up for hearing on April 10.
In her plea, Sangeetha has alleged that Vijay has been involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress.
While she has not disclosed the identity of the actress at this stage, the petition reportedly states that she reserves the right to implead the individual as a second respondent if necessary during the proceedings.

The filing further claims that since 2021, Vijay had “emotionally withdrawn” from the marriage and subjected her to verbal disdain, resulting in what she described as “constructive desertion,” forcing her to live separately within the matrimonial home.
The petition states that his alleged continued open association with the actress caused emotional distress to her and embarrassment to their children among friends, social circles and on social media platforms.
Significantly, Sangeetha has requested that the court conduct the proceedings in camera to protect the privacy of the family. She has also sought an interim injunction restraining social media platforms, YouTube channels and media outlets from publishing interviews, discussions or material related to the case, arguing that unchecked coverage would subject her family to further humiliation and mental agony.
The petition mentions that between August 2024 and February 2025, several legal notices and correspondence were exchanged in an effort to reach an amicable resolution.

It also states that two personal discussions were held to explore a mutually honourable settlement, the last taking place on November 9, 2025. However, those attempts reportedly failed, leaving her with no alternative but to approach the court.
Vijay and Sangeetha were first married in a registered ceremony in the United Kingdom on July 10, 1998. A formal wedding ceremony was later held in Chennai on August 25, 1999.
The development comes at a time when Vijay has been active in the political arena, making the personal matter one of significant public interest.
