A multi-car crash in Mumbai resulted in death of three people, including two women. The accident occurred when a speeding Toyota Innova hit multiple vehicles near the Bandra-Worli Seas Link toll plaza on late Thursday. Besides the deaths of three people, several were injured as well.

As per the police reports, two injured are in critical condition. All of them are given treatment.

Krishnakant Upadhyay, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) from Zone 9, said that Innova at first hit a Mercedes Benz car about 100 metres before the toll booth. The toll booth is situated at the Bandra end of the sea link, on the northbound lane.

The official said that Innova hit a total six vehicles in the accident. They added that at the time of incident, seven people, including the driver, were travelling in the Innova car.

“The driver of the Innova tried to escape from the spot and sped away. As the vehicle reached the toll booth, it rammed into many cars, leaving nine people injured. Later, three of them were declared dead,” PTI quotes as DCP saying.

On the basis of preliminary information, a case has been registered against the driver of Innova under Section 304(2) of the IPC, and further investigation is underway. Mumbai police report that the accused was identified as Mohammed Sarfaraz Shaikh.
