Ex-Journalist Huda Zariwala Arrested For Remarks Against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh police arrested former journalist and news anchor Huda Zariwala allegedly over statement she made recently. The alleged statement reportedly called Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath a ‘criminal’
Zariwala made the statement in the context of the demolition of a mosque in Saharanpur. Zariwala has worked with Saudi TV Channel 2, BBC London and several media organisations in India and the UAE.

In 2020, Zariwala joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and served as a party spokesperson, participating in election campaigns and national television debates representing the AAP and the INDIA alliance. Poice booked Zariwala under preventive provisions for breach of peace.
The arrest comes amid issues following the demolition of the mosque located inside the Collectorate complex. Police had also increased monitoring of social media platforms for posts, videos and messages that they believe could spread rumours or provoke tensions. The journalist allegedly stated that chief minister ‘Adityanath is a criminal, who has martyred the Muslims’ mosque.’

Saharanpur SSP Abhinandan Singh said police registered a case based on Dushyant Singh’s complaint. He said the officials are probing the social media video and the alleged remarks, adding that further legal action would be taken on the basis of the evidences.
