
Legendary Bengali Singer Pratul Mukhopadhyay Dies
West Bengal: Renowned Bengali vocalist, composer, and lyricist Pratul Mukhopadhyay died on Saturday morning as he was undergoing treatment at a state-run hospital. The legendary singer, known for his beautiful voice, was 83.
Some of the timeless songs Mukhopadhyay contributed include “Ami Banglar Gaan Gai” and “Dinga Bhasao Re,” which have become embodiments of Bengali identity.

The singer was admitted to SSKM Hospital on February 4 due to age-related ailments and underwent surgery on February 6. After his condition deteriorated, doctors shifted him to the ICU on Monday night. The cardiac arrest Mukhopadhyay suffered on Saturday led to his demise.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited him in the hospital hours before his death. The chief minister also paid her final tributes to the singer at Rabindra Sadan. “I am saddened by the death of Pratul Mukherjee, a renowned artist of modern Bengali songs,” the TMC chief said.
