Patna HC Directs State To Pay Rs 5 Lakh Compensation For Illegally Jailing Teen For 2.5 Months

Patna, Bihar: The Patna High Court recently ordered the Bihar government to pay Rs five lack as compensation to a 15-year-old boy for illegally arresting and jailing him for around two months.

The court delivered the verdict while ordering the release of the jailed teenager on January 9. The bench comprising Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Justice Ritesh Kumar ordered that the compensation amount can be recovered from the police officers who are found responsible for making the illegal arrest.

The court also asked the state government to pay Rs 15,000 as litigation costs to the family members of the arrested minor. The court observed that it assessed the compensation amount, keeping in view that a young boy who is a juvenile at this stage, has undergone physical and mental agony for two and half months now.

“The State Government shall pay this amount to the petitioner within a period of one month from the date of receipt/production of a copy of this order,” the Court ruled.
