The programme will commence in January 2027 and conclude in June 2028, providing participants with in-depth exposure to international media production, storytelling, and cross-platform journalism.

According to DW, the traineeship is designed to nurture the next generation of media professionals capable of reporting global stories with accuracy, creativity, and a strong sense of ethics.

The DW Traineeship is open to applicants of all nationalities, with no age restrictions, ensuring inclusivity and diversity in every cohort. Candidates who have completed university or college degrees in disciplines such as economics, law, politics, science, or technology/IT are particularly encouraged to apply.

However, individuals from other academic backgrounds with a demonstrated interest in journalism or storytelling are also eligible.

Throughout the 18-month programme, trainees will participate in interactive workshops led by renowned journalists, editors, and media professionals.

They will gain hands-on experience across DW’s various departments—television, radio, and digital—while learning about news production, multimedia storytelling, and the role of journalism in a rapidly evolving information landscape. Participants will also have the opportunity to work on their own journalism projects, guided by DW mentors and senior editors.

In addition to professional training, the programme offers competitive salaries to all selected trainees, making it a paid and fully funded opportunity. This ensures that talented individuals from different economic and cultural backgrounds can participate without financial barriers.

Deutsche Welle emphasises that the traineeship not only focuses on skill development but also fosters international collaboration and cross-cultural understanding. Past trainees have gone on to work with major media houses, international organisations, and digital news platforms worldwide.

Applications for the DW Traineeship 2027–28 are currently open and can be submitted online. There is no application fee, and the submission deadline is November 17, 2025. Interested candidates can learn more and apply through the official link: https://tinyurl.com/dw-traineeship
