Keralam: Kozhikode Native Named Among 40 Young Global Leaders By US Pathology Society

Kozhikode: Marfas Marakankadavu Parambu, a native of Mukhadar in Kozhikode, has been selected for the 2026 40 Under Forty recognition by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), an international programme honouring emerging leaders in pathology and laboratory medicine.

The annual ASCP 40 Under Forty programme recognises 40 professionals under the age of 40 for their achievements, leadership and contributions to the fields of pathology and laboratory medicine.

The 2026 cohort brings together pathologists, laboratory professionals and residents from the United States and around the world. Candidates are evaluated on their accomplishments, experience, leadership qualities and commitment to innovation in laboratory medicine and pathology.

Marfas is currently a Technical Specialist at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York, where he is also involved in teaching clinical medical technology students, providing lectures and supervising students during clinical rotations. His areas of specialisation include clinical chemistry, laboratory quality and strategic laboratory governance.

He holds three ASCP certifications, including International Specialist in Clinical Chemistry, International Medical Laboratory Scientist and International Chemistry Technologist.

He earned a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Madras and an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of Rochester. He also holds a master’s degree in psychology.

Marfas has more than 14 years of international experience in clinical laboratory medicine across the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and India, he has also worked across laboratory operations, administration, quality management, procurement and corporate leadership.

His professional journey has included serving as a laboratory manager in Kolkata and later taking up corporate leadership and procurement responsibilities at a major reference laboratory in Doha, Qatar.

A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, published researcher and invited peer reviewer for Clinica Chimica Acta, Marfas has published research in the Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine and presented research posters at AACC Scientific Meetings.

He also served as a speaker for the AACC Upstate New York Chapter in 2023.

The ASCP 40 Under Forty recognition places Marfas among a select group of young professionals being recognised internationally for their contributions to laboratory medicine.

The programme has honoured emerging leaders from both the United States and other countries since its inception.

The 40 honourees will also have the opportunity to be considered for the 40 Under Forty Top Five, with five individuals selected through a combination of public voting and committee selection.

The Top Five receive additional recognition at the ASCP Annual Meeting.

Marfas is the son of Basheer and Fathibi of Marakankadavu Parambu, Mukhadar, Kozhikode. He survives with his wife and a kid in the USA.
