The Dubai Capitals have battled hard for the last month and a half to reach the final of the DP World ILT20 Season 2, where they will face off against the MI Emirates at their home stadium — the Dubai International Cricket Stadium — on Saturday, 17 February 2024.

The GMR Sports-owned team have made it to the ultimate match of the season after a tough battle, finishing fourth on the points table, with five wins and as many losses in the 10 matches in Season 2.

Led by the reliable Sam Billings, the Dubai Capitals have gone from strength to strength, with key contributions from across the pitch.

A lot of the praise also falls on the lap of their Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikander Raza, who is currently second on the Green Belt table (for the most runs) with 303 runs to his name. He has scored at an impressive average of 33.66 this season and a strike rate of 137.72. Raza was ably supported by Sam Billings’ 280 runs, with the Englishman averaging 31.11 and striking at a rate of 31.11, with three 50s to his name.

In the bowling department, Scott Kuggeleijn has taken most of the plaudits. He has picked up a wicket in all the matches that he has played this season, totalling 13 in seven games, and has the best bowling figures of 4/17 in Season 2.

Among the UAE stars, spinner Haider Ali and pacer Akif Raja were among the standouts for the Capitals. Ali bagged seven wickets in six games, while Akif shone with five wickets in 10 matches this season.

“It has been a great season with the Dubai Capitals. Helping the team reach the final of season 2 has been an extraordinary achievement for the side. I am very proud of the boys and their efforts and commitment this season. I am also very happy to have got an opportunity to captain my team. We have one more match to go before the end of these tournament and that is our most important game of the season. Now all we have to do is carry this confidence into the ultimate match of this tournament and return home with the trophy,” Billings said ahead of the finale.
