Two-time World Champion Muktar Edris will join Paris 2024 gold medallist Joshua Cheptegei in the men’s elite field at the Delhi Half Marathon 2024 on Sunday. This will be the 19th edition of the gold-standard World Athletics Label Road Race which began in 2005.
Edris has been bereft of a podium finish in Delhi, finishing fourth with a time of 54:09 in 2020, while clocking 1:01:05 to finish at the eighth spot in 2022. His personal best timing at the half marathon stands at 58:40.
Cheptegei, the two-time Olympic gold medallist and one-time silver medal winner, will be among the top contenders at the event. He lost to three-time 10,000m World Champion, Edris, by 27 seconds at the 10-mile road race at the Dam tot Damloop in the Netherlands last month.
The women’s field, meanwhile, will consist of Kenyan Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir. Abhishek Pal and Kavita Yadav will be the Indians to look out for in the men’s and women’s elite fields respectively.
The Delhi Half Marathon 2024 will begin at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 05:00 am IST and finish at the same venue. Apart from the main attraction of the event — the half marathon — short-distance races — the Great Delhi Run (∼4.5km), the Senior Citizens’ Run, and the Champions with Disability Run (∼2.5km) — will also be contested for amateur runners.
