Madhavi Latha, who is contesting elections for the first time, gained attention through controversial interviews in recent months.BJP’s Hyderabad Lok Sabha candidate, Kompella Madhavi Latha, is one of Telangana’s richest contenders, with family assets totaling Rs 221 crore. She along with her husband, Kompella Viswanath, have movable assets amounting to Rs 165.46 crore, and immovable assets valued at Rs 55.91 crore. Viswanath is the founder of Virinchi Hospitals, and Madhavi Latha is its chairperson.
The 49-year-old, who stays in the twin city of Secunderabad, recently joined the BJP and is making her electoral debut. Madhavi Latha disclosed her wealth details in an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission while filing her nomination.
Latha mentioned her movable assets, which tally up to Rs 31.31 crore, inclusive of investments totaling Rs 25.20 crore in listed and unlisted companies. She holds investments worth Rs. 7.80 crore in Virinchi Ltd., and has gold jewellery worth Rs. 3.78 crore.
Her husband has movable assets of Rs 88.31 crore, including shares valued at Rs 52.36 crore in Virinchi Ltd. Their three dependent children also possess movable assets exceeding Rs 45 crore.
Latha also owns immovable assets of Rs 6.32 crore while the value of her husband’s immovable assets is Rs 49.59 crore. These assets span non-agricultural land, as well as commercial and residential properties in and around Hyderabad.
Latha has liabilities amounting to Rs 90 lakh, whereas her husband’s liabilities are Rs. 26.13 crore. She reported an income of Rs. 3.76 lakh during 2022-23, compared to Rs 1.22 crore in 2021-22. Meanwhile, Viswanath’s income amounted to Rs 2.82 crore during 2022-23, and Rs. 6.86 crore in 2021-22.
The BJP candidate is currently facing a criminal case filed last week at Begum Bazar Police Station over an alleged gesture she made, symbolising the shooting of an imaginary arrow towards a masjid in the circle of Siddi Amber Bazar.
On April 17, during the Ram Navami Shobha Yatra organised by BJP MLA Raja Singh in Hyderabad’s Goshamahal constituency, Latha’s presence atop a vehicle amid a throng of supporters drew attention. In a video capturing the event, she was seen gesturing as if aiming a bow towards a mosque in Begum Bazar.
After the row erupted, Latha apologized saying “if anyone’s feelings are hurt,” but she also suggested that the circulated video may be “incomplete.”
The BJP leader later posted on X (formerly Twitter), “It has come to my notice that a video of mine is being circulated in the media to create negativity. I would like to clarify that this is an incomplete video and if anyone’s feelings are hurt due to such a video, I would like to apologise…”
