The Riyadh International Book Fair kicked off on Thursday at King Saud University. Organised by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission, it features more than 2,000 publishing houses and agencies from more than 30 countries, spread across 800 pavilions.

The book fair curated under the theme “Riyadh Reads” will run until October 5.

The festival is considered one of the most important and largest book fairs in the Arab world, which is highly regarded in the local and Arab cultural community. It will also promote cultural experiences through events such as seminars, workshops, panel discussions, lectures, poetry evenings, and theatrical performances palpable to all age groups.

The fair also permits the participation of Saudi, Arab, and international cultural organizations and institutions, making it an arena for publishers, and writers for intellectual and cultural exchange.

This year, Qatar is the guest of honour at the book fair. Hence, it offers the public a rich cultural experience focusing on Qatar and highlighting its literary and cultural heritage, history, and achievements. The Qatar Pavillion will also showcase a collection of rare manuscripts and a number of publications of the Qatari Ministry of Culture. Besides, prominent cultural and literary figures from Qatar will grace various events.

The Riyadh book fair is one of a kind as it gives special focus to children; it assigns a dedicated area for children, providing them with lots of literary, cultural, and entertainment activities that could advance the creative interests of  both children and youth.

The book fair is open to the public from 11 am to 12 am, except on Fridays, when it is open from 2 pm to 12 am.
