Tesla Cars to Hit Indian Roads by 2024: Report

According to a report by IANS, Tesla cars are set to hit Indian roads by 2024. The report states that the Indian government is ramping up the process to provide all the necessary approvals from the concerned departments by January 2024 for Tesla”s entry into the country.

The Prime Minister”s Office (PMO) has convened a meeting of top officials to discuss the proposal made by Elon Musk. The meeting will also discuss possible drives to increase the number of electric vehicles (EV) in India.

Elon Musk had earlier urged the central government to cut import duty to make Tesla cars more affordable in India. However, the government had rejected his request. Later, during Narendra Modi”s visit to the United States, Musk met with him and offered to make huge investments in India. Following this meeting, the government is now prepared to revise its earlier decision to ease the import duty on Tesla cars.

A Tesla delegation then followed Narendra Modi to India and held talks with authorities. Tesla”s plans in India include car and auto parts manufacturing, with facilities to export to other Asian countries.

According to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Tesla plans to source $1.9 billion worth of auto parts from India this year.
