Scammer Posing As Elon Musk Dupes Mumbai Woman Of Rs 17 Lakh Offering Marriage, Life In US
A fraudster allegedly connected a 40-year-old woman, hailing from Chembur, posing as US billionaire and entrepreneur, Elon Musk, offering to marry her and give her a life of comfort in the US.
The woman believed the online offer as real from the world’s richest businessman, eventually leading to systematic fraud where the woman was cheated to the tune of nearly 16.34 lakh.

The fraud posed as Musk and approached the woman on social media platform X, which itself is owned by the billionaire, and then asked her to download a messaging application where the duo chatted for several days.
The accused scammer then proposed her telling that he would marry her and take to the US with him. Notably, the scammer as Musk, later asked the woman to get in touch with someone called James who would facilitate her visa.

The victim woman, an employee at an insurance firm, hence approached James who then told her there would be a processing fee for the visa. He allegedly asked her to buy several Amazon Gift cards and send their code to him, claiming that would simplify the visa process.
Thus, the woman spent around Rs 16.34 lakh on these amazon cards from October 2025 to this month, January 2026, falling victim to the romance fraud.
