France to Cancel Thousands of Flights in Early 2024 for Air Traffic Control Upgrades

Travelers planning to fly to France in early 2024 should be aware that the country is set to cancel thousands of flights from major airports as part of a major upgrade to its air traffic control systems.

According to a report, all airlines operating at Paris” Charles de Gaulle, Orly, Le Bourget, and Beauvais airports will have some of their flights canceled between January 9 and February 14, 2024.

Almost 16,000 flights will be canceled during this period, and airlines have been asked to reduce traffic by nearly 20%. Air France has already announced that it will be canceling some of its long-distance flights.

The French government has said that the air traffic control upgrade is necessary because the current system is outdated and prone to errors. The original system was installed in 1970. The new system will have the capacity to handle heavier air traffic.

Travelers whose flights are canceled should contact their airline to rebook on another flight.
