Has India Reached $4 Trillion Economy as Claimed by Leaders?

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis claimed on his X post that India has become a $4 trillion economy. However, there is no official confirmation of this. The finance ministry and the National Statistical Office have not responded to the enquiry regarding this.

According to the Business Standard, the information is incorrect as India is still behind the $4 trillion GDP milestone. Earlier, the billionaire investor Gautam Adani had also claimed the same. He also shared a post on X congratulating the Union government and PM Narendra Modi.

But later the post disappeared from the X platform. According to a report, a widely shared screengrab, which displays GDP feed for all countries based on the International Monetary Fund, was fake and India has not reached the $4 trillion landmark yet.

The report pointed out the difficulty of having a live GDP data as it lags.

“Congratulations, India. Another two years to go before India becomes the 3rd largest nation in terms of Global GDP by overtaking Japan at $4.4 trillion and Germany at $4.3 trillion. The Tricolour surge continues! Jai Hind,” Adani said on the social media platform X.

Many political leaders, including Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, hailed the achievement.

“India’s moment of global glory as our GDP crosses $4 Trillion. The rise of #NewIndia under PM @narendramodi ji’s leadership is truly unparalleled,” Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said in a post on X.
