Rs 6 Lakh Crore Business Expected from 48 Lakh Weddings this Season.

The wedding season in India is about to get bigger from November 12 to December 16 as the recent data shows that India will witness around 48 lakh weddings generating a whopping Rs 6 lakh crore business which would be a major jump from last year’s Rs 4.25 lakh crore business from 35 lakh weddings.

According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), people are increasingly opting for Indian products over foreign goods. This shift reflects the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ visions,  CAIT’s Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal told Financial Express.

This year’s wedding season has 18 auspicious dates compared to just 11 last year. These special days as per CAIT ‘s Veda and Spiritual Committee convenor Acharya Durgesh Tare, are November: 12, 13, 17, 18, 22, 23, 25, 26, 28, 29 and December: 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16.

Delhi alone is expected to see Rs 1.5 lakh crore business across 4.5 lakh weddings. CAIT told Financial Express that:

  • 10 lakh weddings with Rs 3 lakh spending per wedding
  • 10 lakh weddings with Rs 6 lakh spending per wedding
  • 10 lakh weddings with Rs 10 lakh spending per wedding
  •  10 lakh weddings with Rs 15 lakh spending per wedding
  •  7 lakh weddings with Rs 25 lakh spending per wedding
  • 50,000 weddings with Rs 50 lakh spending per wedding
  •  50,000 weddings with Rs 1 crore or more spending per wedding

Wedding expenses are divided between goods and services the top expenditure areas include: clothing: sarees, lehengas, and apparel (10%), jewellery (15%),  electronics and appliances (5%), dry fruits, sweets, snacks (5%), groceries and vegetables (5%), gift items (4%) and other goods (6%), as per CAIT.

However, Social media is buzzing with hilarious memes about the whopping wedding expenses that going to happen soon. Users share jokes about bankrupting parents, and future divorces to sarcastic comments about the “great Indian wedding splurge.”

An X user commented: “And they all will increase the Indian population by around 48 lacs till 2026.”
