At the three-day India Mobile Congress (IMC), inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Reliance Jio unveiled its SpaceFiber. Chairman of Reliance Jio, Akash Ambani, unveiled the product service at the Jio pavilion, by giving a demonstration of Jio SpaceFiber to the Prime Minister after the inauguration of the IMC, the HT reported.

On the occasion, Akash Ambani said, “Jio SpaceFiber will allow everyone, everywhere, to fully participate in the new digital society with gigabit access to online government, education, health, and entertainment services.” Ambani further said that, JioSpaceFiber, would ‘expand our reach to cover the millions yet to be connected.’

Jio SpaceFiber is an internet network which is satellite-based. With this, the Reliance plans on extending high-speed broadband services to places which were inaccessible earlier. For SpaceFiber, Jio has a Luxembourg-based satellites communication provider known as SES on its team. The SES’s O3b and the latest O3b mPower satellites would be made use of, for this. These satellites will lead Jio in tapping in to the up-to-date medium earth orbit (MEO) technology, which would aid the service’s reach and scalability of the internet network in the remote areas.

In the year 2022, the Reliance Jio unit, Jio Satellites had received sanction from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), to begin a high-speed broadband from space services, the HT said. Meanwhile Jio SpaceFiber, is already available at four of India’s remote locations, Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam. The product service would soon be available everywhere in India.

The Indian Mobile Congress is being held at Delhi.
