'National Digital Repository Of Indian Knowledge System' Announced In Union Budge 2025-26

Today, February 1, 2025, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the key objectives of the current government to be covered in the next one year. The Union minsiter announced the setting up of a ‘National Digital Repository of Indian Knowledge System.

“The digital repository will work as a central platform for knowledge sharing”, she said.

Notably, Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is a collection of ancient practices, beliefs, and philosophies that forms the foundation of Indian culture and society. The IKS include several disciplines including science, mathematics, medicine, art, literature and spirituality.

Key Basis of Indian Knowledge System (IKS)

Vedas: These are the oldest sacred texts in the world containing knowledge on medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and more.

Yoga: A practice that includes asanas (postures), pranayama (breath control), and meditation

Ayurveda: The ancient science of holistic healing Vedanta: A philosophical tradition that explores consciousness and existence

Tantra: A philosophical tradition that explores consciousness and existence

Mathematics: Ancient Indian scholars contributed to the development of concepts like zero and decimal notation

Astronomy: Ancient Indian scholars made significant contributions to astronomy
