Prime Minister Narendra Modi Chaired the First governing board meeting of the newly formed Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). The foundation will work as an apex body to provide high-level strategic directions toward scientific research by the National Education Policy (NEP). Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also present at the meeting.
The ANRF aims to promote research and development and foster a culture of research and innovation in Indian universities, colleges, research institutions, and laboratories.

Addressing the meeting, PM Modi reportedly assured the scientific community regarding the availability of resources for the research work. He also stressed the need to identify and remove obstacles in the research ecosystem of the country.
The governing council meeting focused on the country’s science and technology landscape and redesigning of research and development programs.
The Prime Minister highlighted the research focus on finding new solutions to the existing problems of environmental change, battery ingredients for EVs and lab-grown diamonds, and localized solutions to the problems.
The ANRF will launch programs on select priority areas in a mission mode like EV mobility, advanced materials, solar cells, smart infrastructure, health and medical technology, sustainable agriculture, and photonics. The governing body was observed to supplement the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ through these initiatives.

PM Modi also said that the ANRF strategic initiatives should align with the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 and global practices should be adopted by the research and development agencies across the world.
