Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation at 8:30 PM on Saturday (April 18, sparking widespread anticipation across political and public circles.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the subject of the address.

The announcement comes just a day after a significant political development in the Lok Sabha, where a key Constitution Amendment Bill linked to the implementation of women’s reservation failed to secure passage.

The bill required a two-thirds majority but fell short despite a prolonged and intense debate.

During the voting process, 298 members supported the legislation, while 230 opposed it.

However, the numbers were insufficient to meet the required threshold of 352 votes, leading to the bill’s defeat. The outcome marked a rare legislative setback for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led government on a major reform proposal.

The proposed amendment aimed to pave the way for the implementation of women’s reservation in Parliament and State Assemblies, potentially from 2029.

It was also linked to future delimitation exercises based on census data, along with plans to increase the number of seats in the Lok Sabha.

Following the setback, the government reportedly decided not to proceed immediately with related legislative proposals, including the delimitation bill and amendments concerning Union Territories.

While it remains unclear whether the Prime Minister’s address will directly address this issue, the timing has drawn attention. Political observers expect the speech to provide clarity on the government’s position, future course of action, or other key national matters.

Prime Minister Modi’s previous address to the nation was delivered in September last year, where he spoke on issues related to economic reforms, including GST.
