While replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit back at the opposition including Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal, stating that “Some leaders speak language of urban naxals, talk of waging war against the Indian state, they cannot understand the Constitution.”

On day four of the Parliament’s budget session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in Lok Sabha.

‘Sheesh Mahal’ and AAPda Swipe on Kejriwal

Ahead of the Delhi elections, PM Modi attacked AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and said that while the centre prioritised providing water to every home, “some leaders focus on jacuzzis and stylish showers.”

Kejriwal was accused of spending nearly Rs 33 crore on renovating the CM residence during his term. A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General listed that nearly Rs 19.5 lakh had been spent on installing a jacuzzi, sauna, and spa, among other things. The former Delhi CM had refuted the allegations.

PM Modi also took a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ swipe at Kejriwal, saying that the BJP-led NDA government used money to build the nation rather than building Sheesh Mahal. “Earlier, the newspaper headlines used to be on corruption. But now it’s been 10 years and we have saved money because of no corruption. We didn’t use this money to build a ‘sheesh mahal’ but we used that to build the country,” he said.

He further added that while his government consistently works with the future of youth in mind, few parties were “deceiving” the youth. “These parties are ‘AAPda‘ on the future of youth. How we function was visible in Haryana. We promised jobs and as soon as we formed the government, the youngsters got jobs. We deliver on our promises,” he remarked.

Congress, Rahul Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi

“We have done so much for the poor, and because of this, the president has detailed it in her address,” said Modi.

Taking a jibe at Rahul Gandhi, he said that those who entertain themselves by getting photo sessions done in huts of the poor will find the talk of the poor in Parliament boring. The Congress MP had criticised the President’s address to the two Houses for being similar to the one made last year, claiming that it was the same “laundry list” of things the government has done.

Modi further said, “Those who live with Constitution in their pockets, forget how they pushed Muslim women into hardships.”

PM Modi also made an indirect reference to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. “In our country, there used to be a Prime Minister, there was a fashion to call him ‘Mr Clean’. At that time from panchayats to Parliament, there was the rule of only one party. And he said when Re 1 is spent, the poor used to get 15 paise,” he said.

His speech comes a day after the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha targeted the BJP-led central government on Monday and said that an INDIA alliance government would not have sent its foreign minister to the US to seek an invitation for the prime minister to attend the American president’s “coronation.”

In a series of scathing attacks, Gandhi criticised the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, calling it a failure that allowed China to establish a presence within Indian territory.

Gandhi’s statements had triggered backlash by the BJP members, who accused him of resorting to “falsehood.” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju called for an apology from Gandhi, highlighting that the Lok Sabha Speaker had asked the opposition leader four times to authenticate his claims, but Gandhi didn’t abide.
