Poll Code Violations: Delhi Police Register Cases Against CM Atishi, BJP Leader Ramesh Bidhuri's Son

New Delhi: Minutes after the Delhi Police registered a case against Chief Minister Atishi for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the AAP leader attacked the Delhi police, alleging that the family members of Ramesh Bidhuri, the BJP candidate from Kalkaji, were openly flouting the poll code, but no action was being taken.

Acting upon the chief minister’s allegations, the police have registered a case against Manish Bidhuri, son of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, for alleged interference in a constituency during the silence period, violating the poll code.

The official handle of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Delhi, in an X post confirmed the case against the BJP leader, noting that a legal case under section 126 of the RP Act has been registered against Manish Bidhuri & Ravi Dayama for violation of MCC in Govindpuri police station.

Atishi, while speaking to news agency ANI, had said that they received information that someone from Ramesh Bidhuri’s Tughlaqabad team is threatening the people in the JJ camp, Girinagar area after the election campaign during the silence period, after the campaign ended.

“We saw that Ramesh Bidhuri’s son, Manish Bidhuri, was sitting here with 3-4 other outsiders. I informed the administration about this. The police have taken him; I hope action will be taken, and no one other than the residents of Kalkaji Assembly will be allowed here,” ANI quoted the chief minister.

Apart from the chief minister, police have registered cases against AAP supporters for allegedly slapping and obstructing head constable of Govindpuri Police station at around 1 am on Tuesday when the latter started recording a gathering. Two members from the ruling AAP, Ashmit and Sagar Mehta, were arrested by the police.

According to the police, Atishi violated the Model Code of Conduct by arriving at Fateh Singh Marg with ten vehicles and around sixty supporters on Monday night, and when she was asked to leave, she refused, police said, India Today reported.

The capital city witnessed the dramatic political developments a day ahead of the poll date.
