New Delhi Constituency: Arvind Kejriwal Trailing; BJP's Parvesh Verma In The Lead
New Delhi: AAP national convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is facing the huge political setback of his career and his party. As per the reports, Kejriwal is lost from his sitting New Delhi seat to rival BJP candidate Parvesh Verma.
New Delhi seat is definitely a symbol of power and of political importance. The contest for New Delhi seat is also interesting because two former chief minister’s sons are contesting against AAP chief this time. The Congress nominee Sandeep Dikshit, is the son of late Sheila Dikshit, three-time Delhi Chief Minister and Parvesh Verma is the son of late BJP politician and former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma.

Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is the son of late BJP politician and former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma. He is a former MP represented West Delhi constituency. He entered into politics by contesting from the Mehrauli constituency in the 2013 Delhi Assembly election and won. The sitting MLA Yoganand Shastri retreated to third position. He defeated AAP candidate Narinder Singh Sejwal by a margin of 4564 votes. Verma has also served as the member of the Delhi BJP election committee for the then assembly polls.
Verma made his debut in the Lok Sabha with the successful contest from West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 polls. Verma won the seat with defeating AAP candidate Jarnail Singh by a margin of 2,68,586 votes. In the 2019 election, he retained the seat by defeating Congress candidate Mahabal Mishra by a margin of 5,78,486 votes. In the polls, Verma not only broke his record but also set a new record as candidate garnering highest victory margin in Delhi.

A fierce three-way contest between Aam Admi Party (AAP), BJP and Congress held in the national capital. In the single-phase election held on February 5, 70 assembly constituencies recorded a total voter turnout 60.44%. Most of the exit poll predicted return of the BJP to power after 25 years, delivering huge blow to the hat-trick aims of AAP, with Congress on a distant third.
A total of 699 candidates, including 96 women, were in the fray. AAP and Congress fielded 70 candidates each and the BJP 68 candidates, while two seats were being contested by its allies Janata Dal (United) and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)
