NDA Announces Nationwide Protest Over Defeat Of Constitution Amendment Bill In Lok Sabha
New Delhi: The BJP and the NDA allies have announced nationwide protest against the opposition INDI alliance following the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha on Friday, April 17.
The bill was introduced aiming to expand the Lok Sabha seats through delimitation and to provide 33 percent reservation for women. The opposition defeated the bill, which required a two-thirds majority, triggering a sharp political confrontation between the ruling alliance and the opposition.

The NDA has announced that the protests will be organized at district headquarters across the country. The opposition leaders have called the defeat of the bill a victory for the constitution and federal structure of the country. DMK leader S. Ragupathi described the defeat of the delimitation-linked constitutional amendment bill in Parliament as a “first victory” for the state, given that Tamil Nadu has been in the frontline in opposing the delimitation.
The southers states are likely to be at disadvantage of the exercise, which is accused of taking away the rights of the southern states. Critics argued that the Centre introduced the bill despite knowing that they lacks one-third of the majority, allegedly to manipulate women voters.
