Kozhikode, Kerala: Tech giant Meta Platforms Inc. has removed at least 10 posts shared by Timeline that are critical of Prime Minister Modi, billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani and the ruling BJP.

Banned content includes Timeline videos regarding electoral roll revision, the CJP Delhi protest, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the recent PM Modi’s Banaskantha event and the coverage of court-related disputes.

The most recent video that Instagram took down on the government’s demand is about the brewing controversy involving staff from the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC) after they appeared in a video making political chants such as “Modi Kahin Nahi Jayega” (Modi is not going anywhere).

During the event, staff members associated with the government-supported research and breeding centre were recorded participating in the political chant, sparking criticism about the red line between government-backed research personnel and political partisanship.

Responding to the censorship, Timeline Managing Editor Shihabudeen Kunju stated that government-driven action from Meta will not stop the outlet from publishing the truth. He called Meta’s one-sided censorship a direct threat to press freedom and freedom of expression in India.
