Meta Is Clueless About What They Are Doing - Restricts Timeline Video On PM Modi’s Handloom Appeal
Kozhikode, Kerala: A video regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal on National Handloom Day was restricted by Meta in India on August 7, 2026. The video, shared by news page Timeline News featured Prime Minister Modi encouraging citizens to support India’s handloom sector. The incident happens hours after Meta apologised to India’s information technology minister for briefly restricting a post by the Prime Minister.
Timeline received a notice from Meta stating the video was restricted through an automated system implemented pursuant to legal requirements under India’s Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules.

It also showed that “Your video is unavailable in India.” The notice also pointed out that the tech company has taken this action based on a local legal requirement. Meta has not clarified further beyond citing compliance with Indian law, sparking debate whether which part of the subject violated specific rules.

Notably, Meta recently blocked a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sparking widespread criticism and a subsequent apology from the tech giant. “I apologised to the minister on behalf of Meta for the error restricting PM Modi’s post,” the plaform’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan had said.
