New Delhi, January 31, 2025—Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has said that India is witnessing an ideological battle between the Congress and the BJP, with the former advocating for constitutional values, harmony, and brotherhood, while the latter spreads hatred and fear.
Speaking at a public rally ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections in Madipur, Gandhi also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing its leadership, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, of corruption and involvement in the “biggest liquor scam.” He mocked Kejriwal’s transformation from a leader who once travelled in a modest Wagon-R to one now associated with luxury.
Gandhi urged voters to support Congress, recalling the era of progress under Sheila Dikshit’s leadership and blaming AAP for destroying the infrastructure she built. He also accused the BJP government of stoking violence and divisiveness to divert attention from critical issues such as unemployment and inflation, adding that even the media fails to highlight these concerns.
Highlighting the lack of representation for marginalised communities, Gandhi stated that despite forming 90% of India’s population, Dalits, Backwards, tribals, and minorities hold just 6% of decision-making power. He criticised AAP’s leadership, displaying a poster of its top nine leaders and pointing out that none came from these communities, alleging that the party represents a privileged minority of 2-3%.
Gandhi accused both Modi and Kejriwal of misleading the public with false promises. He cited Kejriwal’s pledge to clean the Yamuna five years ago, arguing that instead of fulfilling it, he was now shifting blame onto others.
Reaffirming Congress’s commitment to realistic and achievable policies, Gandhi highlighted the party’s past successes with schemes like MGNREGA and the Food Security Act. He promised direct financial support for women and subsidised cooking gas if Congress forms the government in Delhi, urging voters to reject AAP and BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Delhi votes on February 5 and the counting will be held on February 8.
