A joint platform of student organisations in India, “United Students of India” will conduct Parliamentary march on January 12, 2024, under the slogan “Save Education, Reject NEP.. Save India, Reject BJP”. 16 student organisations, most of which alleged to be associated with INDIA bloc met on today at a joint convention to declare a series of protest against the Union government demanding the withdrawal of National Education Policy (NEP).
The march is considered as a move to “sustain the momentum” in “strengthening the fight to protect the education and employment sector in India”.
The protests will culminate with a march to the Parliament on Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, January 12, 2024. The march and protest by students are arranged as a result of the “attack on quality education in India is scaling dangerous heights under the current BJP-led union government”, said a joint statement by the “United Students of India” which was issued earlier this month.
The statement calls out the ruling party of India on its “aims to undermine and dismantle the public education system” by seeking to replace it with “communal, destructive scheme that fundamentally contradicts the constitutional vision of the education”. The agitation against the BJP led government on its decision to “remove the name of the country, India from text books” were also pronounced in the statement.
Calling Sangh Parivar, “the largest fascist organization which controls the BJP government in power”, United Students of India share their “serious concern and suspect that Sangh Parivar forces may escalate their attacks on the education sector and democratic, secular and progressive values of our country”.
