
UP Youth Question Closure Of 5,000 Schools, Rise Of 35,000 Liquor Shops
In a video going viral on social media, two young boys are speaking on the loudspeaker to the people of their village to question the Uttar Pradesh government about the closure of 5,000 primary schools and also seeking accountability for the opening up of 35,000 liquor shops.
Reportedly, the UP government has decided to close down nearly 5,000 primary schools where the number of students is lesser. The merging of schools will see the conversion of empty school campuses in Baal Vatikas.

However, teachers, students, and parents do not seem happy with the decision as it will create job losses and also increase the chances of school dropout and force parents to enrol their wards in private schools nearby.
Parents are worried that the closure of schools will put pressure on them to arrange the transportation facility which they may find unable to do. Also, studens living in village area has to cross crop fields and unihabited areas which increase the security concern for the students.
Students, especially girls, might not feel comfortable covering longer distances, which can give rise to higher dropout rates.
Congress Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi also slammed the UP government for closing 27,000 schools and depriving students of the Right to education, resulting in further marginalization of SC, ST, and minority students.
