Congress' Counter On PM Modi’s Claims Of Not Supporting Ambedkar

Congress Debunks PM Modi’s Claims Of Not Supporting Ambedkar

New Delhi, February 8: The Congress today countered the claims made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting that the Congress did not support Dr BR Ambedkar and that it was against reservations. Referring to PM Modi’s claims that reservations would not have been there had it not been Dr Ambdekar, while addressing a press conference here today, the Chairman of the Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress, Dr Udit Raj quoted Dr Amedkar saying that he had never thought that he will become the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution which was done by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Dr Raj claimed that the RSS had wanted a capitalist system on the pattern of the United States and was against the socialist system. He said, under that system reservations for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes would never have been possible.

He said it was because of the socialist system adopted by the Congress that paved the way for social justice.

He alleged that the Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar had even questioned the need of drafting the constitution as he (Savarkar) had wanted Manu Samriti to be adopted as the country’s constitution.

The Congress leader alleged that Prime Minister Modi was deliberately trying to mislead people about the Congress and its relationship with Dr Ambedkar by uttering baseless lies.

He alleged, PM Modi wants to mislead Dalits by stating untruthful things.  Congress Party and Dr Ambedkar were complementary to each other.  He said, another misinformation about Dr Ambedkar and Congress that later caused his defeat in first election in 1952 but factually it is incorrect and it was veteran CPI leader S A Dange who defeated him.

Dr Raj said, love of PM Modi for Ambedkar can be seen in the deeds of RSS and Hindu Mahasabha who burnt Dr Ambedkar’s effigy and copy of Constitution on 12th Dec, 1949.

By opposing Mandal, BJP captured the power. Lal Krishna Advani launched Rath Yatra to oppose reservation given to OBC and they opposed the reservation given to OBC in higher education (2006) by Dr Manmohan Singh Govt and then HRD Minister, Arjun Singh.

RSS and BJP launched a massive protest and backed the agitation on AIIMS campus against this reservation, he pointed out.

Dr Udit Raj further said that Modi’s govt recruited IAS through lateral entry and there are no SC/ST/OBC.
