Malviya Nagar Assembly Election Result:
In Malviya Nagar constituency, BJP’s Satish Upadhyay wins the seat with 2,131 votes. AAP’s Somnath Bharti, and Congress’ Jitender Kumar Kochar, came second and third respectively. Malviya Nagar Assembly Constituency is one among the 70 constituency in Delhi, and comes under South district. It was a triangular contest between Aam Admi Party’s (AAP) Somnath Bharti, BJP’s Satish Upadhyay, and Congress’ Jitender Kumar Kochar.
During the 2020 Assembly election, Bharti won the seat with the margin of 18,144 votes. He has been winning the seat since AAP contested for the first time in 2013. The party was formed in 2012. BJP’s Shailender Singh came second with 33,899 votes. Congress’ Neetu Verma Soin came third with mere 2,856 votes.
In 2015 assembly election, Bharti won the seat with the margin of 15,897 votes. BJP’s Dr Nandini Sharma came second with 35,299 votes, and Dr Yoganand Shastri of Congress came third with 5,555 votes.
While AAP’s Somnath Bharti has been winning the seat since 2013, the constituency was under Indian National Congress from 1998 to 2008. BJP last won the seat in 1993.
The Assembly election in Delhi was held on February 5, with over 15 million voters casting their ballots across 70 constituencies. A total of 699 candidates, including 96 women, contested the elections.
The triangular contest in the national capital created palpable tension. While AAP and Congress are part of INDIA alliance on national level, the two parties are contesting against each other in Delhi. If BJP won the capital, it would be a huge comeback after 27 years.
