Rohit Patil Vs Sanjaykaka Patil: Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal Constituency Stands Unpredictable

Given the resentment within the MVA against Rohit, it is inferred that it would not be a piece of cake for the young NCP SP leader to come out victorious and protect the political legacy, though his mother represents the constituency at present.

Rohit Patil Vs Sanjaykaka Patil: Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal constituency Stands Unpredictable

One of the key contestants in Maharashtra assembly elections is of Rohit Patil, son of former Maharashtra deputy chief minister RR Patil. Rohit is vying on Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP)’s ticket from Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal constituency. The son follows the decades of his father’s political legacy, who represented the seat for more than 20 years till his death in 2015.

The 27-year-old Rohit’s debut for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled on November 20 will decide the follow up of RR Patil’s legacy in the Maharashtra politics. NCP candidate and Rohit’s mother Sumanvahini R.R. (Aba) Patil had emerged victorious from the Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal with a margin of 62532 votes during the 2019 assembly elections.

However, the rival NCP Ajit Pawar faction has fielded Sanjaykaka Patil against the MVA candidate. Sanjaykaka Patil had left the undivided NCP in 2014 to join the BJP and  contest the Lok Sabha elections back then. He won both 2014 and 2019 general Sabha elections, representing Sangli constituency for two consecutive terms. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Sanjaykaka lost to independent candidate Vishal Patil. Notably, Sanjaykaka Patil is contesting the upcoming assembly election as a Mahayiti candidate on the Ajit Pawar’s NCP ticket from Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal. The contest also marks Sanjaykaka’s debut assembly race.

Interestingly, though Rohit Patil carries the family legacy, the MVA alliance partner Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has warned the NCP SP candidate that he may encounter challenge in his constituency, noting the resistance within the alliance due to Patil’s earlier activities against the Congress party. He pointed out Rohit’s previous support for a Congress rebel candidate, Vishal Patil, during the Lok Sabha elections in Sangli, which saw the independent candidate winning the general elections.
