Empuraan Advance Bookings Begin: Mohanlal Starrer Shatters Records Ahead Of Release

Mohanlal’s much-awaited Malayalam film L2: Empuraan has already started making waves in the industry, surpassing the ₹10 crore mark in pre-sales before its release, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

With seven days left until its official premiere on March 27, the film has already set a new benchmark for advance bookings, breaking records for any Malayalam film in the overseas market.

As of today, March 21, advance bookings for the Indian audience began at 9 am, with anticipation building up, especially in Kerala, where the film is expected to perform exceptionally well.

According to Sacnilk, Empuraan has already grossed over ₹12 crore worldwide in advance bookings, excluding the regular bookings in the domestic market.

The international pre-sales have been described as a “never-before-seen mass hysteria,” highlighting the immense excitement surrounding the film’s release.

With this, Empuraan is expected to make history by recording the highest opening ever for a Malayalam film, with estimates of ₹40-50 crore in worldwide earnings on its opening day.

If the film receives positive reviews, it might be the one to become the biggest Malayalam grosser, surpassing the current highest opener, Marakkar (₹20 crore).

The movie’s success could also potentially surpass Manjummel Boys, the highest Malayalam grosser at ₹241 crore, positioning Empuraan as a monumental achievement in Malayalam cinema.

Empuraan is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, where Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, and Tovino Thomas delivered stellar performances.

The sequel reunites Mohanlal with director Prithviraj Sukumaran for the third time. Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies, Empuraan will be released in multiple languages including Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil.

Mohanlal returns as Khureshi Ab’raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally, while Prithviraj reprises his role as Zayed Masood, Ab’raam’s hitman. Most of the characters from Lucifer make a comeback, alongside new additions from Bollywood and international cinema.
