As soon as the Mohanlal starrer was out, massive throngs of crowd rushed to theatres as early as 6 am. Directed by Prithviraj, L2: Empuraan appears to be on the right track to become the next big thing from Malayalam cinema. Also starring Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jerome Flynn and the mysterious character (no spoilers here!), Empuraan has made its mark.

With many hailing the film as one of the best theatrical experiences in recent times, it seems that Mohanlal has made his comeback with a bang!

“One of the best in Mollywood,” is how this social media user described Lalettan’s entry sequence in the film.

“The film also has plenty of dark humor and sharp political satire that Malayali audiences will relate to. On the downside, some characters feel underused, and the villain’s arc could have been stronger,” remarked the netizen. The jungle scene also received special mention from others.

Another netizen had the perfect word to describe it: “Toofan (Storm)”

A diehard Mohanlal fan rejoiced in seeing his favourite back in his element. Thanking Prithviraj, the Abin Babu said, “You Did It Man Thank You For Making Proud Our Industry & Unleashing My Lalettan in a Way How We Want To See.”

One X user believes that while the film had its potential to become a landmark film for Mollywood but good writing prevented it. At the same time, Empuraan seems to have done a good job with visuals, production design, and other technical aspects.

Meanwhile another netizen praised the well-written story, screenplay, “excellent cinematography with mind blowing action sequences.”

“Every characters had equal screen space to perform and did well… some minor flaws are there but manages to engage with high moments… used mocobot really well… staging was good in most scenes,” he added.

According to Venky Review, Lucifer’s sequel focuses more on style and technicalities over substance. Compared to the first part, Empuraan falls short when it comes to drama and core emotion on top of the lengthy duration (3 hours), added the review.
