
Revealed: The Mystery Character Of L2: Empuraan (Spoiler Alert)
Mohanlal starrer Prithiraj Sukumaran directorial Empuraan hit the big screen on Thursday, March 27, ending days of anticipation from the film-goers. The celebrated Lucifer sequel’s villain, who was shown as a mysterious figure in the trailer, had generated huge speculation and curiosity regarding the cast’s identity, which had been kept under wraps until now.
Notably, with the film’s release, the suspense name has now been revealed. As anticipated by many, the villain is Korean-American actor Rick Yune, best known for his role as the icy antagonist in Die Another Day. The 53-year-old Yune is also known for his acting in Ninja Assassin, Olympus Has Fallen, and Tetris.

In Empuraan, the villain is the leader of Shen Triad, which is also known as the Axis of Death. The next franchise, Lucifer 3, is going to be the conflicts between Khureshi Ab’raam, an Indo-Arab group, and Shen Triad, which is a Chinese group. Hence, the fans would probably watch the villain’s impactful scenes in the Lucifer 3.

Interestingly, looking at the poster of the mysterious villain, many had already predicted Yune’s name, noting the mysterious character’s resemblance to the American actor. Some also observed the style as from Yune’s action roles. Following speculations, the social media handles of Yune were flooded with comments from the Mohanlal fans. The mystery behind the villain’s identity had fueled intense fan speculation over the burning question, who is the shadowy masked antagonist.
Making the rumours more vivid, a UK-based talent agency had briefly shared a Instagram post stating that two of their clients — The Fast and the Furious actor Rick Yune and Killing Eve‘s Andrea Tivadar — will be playing starring roles in L2: Empuraan. However, the post was swiftly taken down after some time. Andrea Tivadar has already announced his place in the highly anticipated movie.

Who Is Rick Yune, The Villain Of Empuraan
Rick Yune, born to Korean parents in 1971 in the US, is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, and martial artist. Yune made his film debut in 1999. He co-starred as Johnny Tran, a Vietnamese gang leader and the rival of Vin Diesel’s character, in the 2001 film The Fast and the Furious. The subsequent role played by Yune was as Zao, a North Korean terrorist who works for the Korean People’s Army. In the 2012 martial arts film, The Man with the Iron Fists, Yune was starred with Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu.
As denoted above, Yune has played several successful antagonist roles throughout his acting career, moulding him into exceptional villain character with fitting physical attributes. In the 2013 action thriller, Olympus Has Fallen, Yune played the role of Kang Yeon-Sak, a North Korean ultra-nationalist and ex-terrorist mastermind who plans a terrorist attack on the White House.
