Malayalam Movie 2018 India's Official Entry For Oscars 2024

The movie “2018,” a Malayalam film, has been selected as India”s official entry for the 2024 Oscars. This film, with the tag line “Everyone Is A Hero”, is a gripping survival drama that portrays the devastating floods that struck Kerala in 2018.

Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, the movie, which will compete for the Best International Feature Film Oscar, a category that was previously titled Best Foreign Film, features a talented ensemble cast including Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Narain, Lal, Sudheesh, Aju Varghese. Kalaiyarasan, Aparna Balamurali, Tanvi Ram, Gauthami Nair, Siddique, Renji Panicker, Janardhanan, Indrans, Jaffar Idukki and many others.

“2018” was released in May of this year and has garnered both critical acclaim and significant box office success. It currently holds the distinction of being the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time and one of the top earners in Indian cinema this year.

“This is Huge!!!!…’2018’ is India’s official entry to Oscar,” commented protagonist of the movie Tovino Thomas.

“That’s two in a row. Yesterday I received an international recognition for my performance in the movie 2018. Today, the movie itself is representing India at the Academy Awards. Yes, 2018 is India’s official entry for the Oscars. Thrilled, Elevated, Excited… That’s what I’m right now. Hoping to hear “And the Oscar goes to”… Fingers Crossed…,” the actor said in an Instagram post.

Filmmaker and chairman of the selection committee Girish Kasaravalli said that the Malayalam movie had been picked for its theme of the effects of climate change out of 22 films including The Kerala Story, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, Telugu film Balagam, Marathi films Vaalvi and Baaplyok and August 16, 1947 (Tamil).
