Metro... In Dino Box Office Day 1: Anurag Basu’s Urban Tale Begins On A Positive Note

Anurag Basu’s Bollywood romntic drama Metro… In Dino hit theatres on Friday, July 4, and registered a respectable opening at the box office with a Day 1 collection of ₹3.35 crore (as per early estimates).

Starring a stellar ensemble cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Ali Fazal, the film has been widely appreciated for its emotional depth, visual storytelling, and soulful music.

While the opening figure may seem modest when compared to recent big-ticket Bollywood releases, it is a solid start for a slice-of-life drama—a genre that traditionally relies on strong word-of-mouth rather than massive initial footfalls. A spiritual successor to Basu’s 2007 cult classic Life in a… Metro, which opened at just ₹80 lakh but went on to become a sleeper hit.

Produced by T-Series Films and Anurag Basu Productions, the film features a powerhouse ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Ali Fazal.

Basu brings back familiar collaborators from his previous works, including several key cast members from Ludo, while Konkona Sen Sharma reprises her presence from the original Metro film. The screenplay weaves together multiple parallel stories that ultimately intersect, offering a layered narrative full of heart, longing, and redemption.

Adding to the emotional weight is the music by Pritam, whose soundtrack, including hits like “Zamaana Lage”, “Dil Ka Kya”, and “Mann Ye Mera” has already captured the public’s imagination. The album features soulful renditions by Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, Raghav Chaitanya, and even vocals by Anupam Kher and Aditya Roy Kapur, bringing a unique personal touch to the musical storytelling.

Filmed across iconic Indian cities and picturesque locales like Barog railway station in Himachal Pradesh, Metro… In Dino aims to resonate with a new generation navigating love in the age of urban isolation, digital distraction, and shifting social values.
