It seems the Mohanlal directorial Barroz has finally got a date for its release. Barroz is coming to reveal his secrets on 3rd October 2024. “Mark your calendars for a magical adventure,” the actor wrote on X.
The upcoming movie Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure is based on the novel by Jijo Punnoose and marks the directorial debut of acclaimed actor Mohanlal. The film is being produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Ashirvad Movies. Initially, the movie’s shooting began in 2021 but faced delays due to Covid-19 restrictions. Filming took place in Goa, Kochi, and Bangkok.
As suggested by its title, Barroz is expected to be a fantasy film centered around the character of Barroz, a guardian of Vasco da Gama’s secret treasure for 400 years, tasked with passing it on to a true descendant of Gama. Mohanlal not only directs but also stars in the lead role. The movie will feature an ensemble cast including Maya, Cesar Lorente Raton, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Tuhin Menon, and Guru Somasundaram.
Barroz follows the success of Mohanlal’s recent courtroom drama Neru and his appearances in films like Marakkar, Monster, Alone, Malaikkottai Vaaliban, and 12th Man. The film’s cinematography is handled by Santhosh Sivan, with music composed by Lydian Nadhaswaram and Mark Kilian.
In addition to Barroz, Mohanlal has another highly anticipated project in the works: L2: Empuraan, directed by actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran.
The movie Barroz promises to be an intriguing fantasy adventure, continuing the legacy of its creator, Jijo Punnoose, who directed India’s first 3D film, My Dear Kuttichathan (1984).
