OTT Releases This Week: Be Happy, Ponman, Moana 2, Azaad

Another week with another set of interesting entertainers. Here is a set of OTT releases with a variety of genres, like romantic comedy, thrillers and periodic action entertainers, that will make your weekend an interesting one. Be Happy (March 14 – Prime Video)

After his heartfelt, I Want To Talk, Abhishek Bachchan is back with another feel-good film, Be Happy. The dance-drama follows a single father and his witty, wise beyond-her-years daughter. When his daughter’s dream of performing in the country’s biggest dance reality show collides with a life-altering crisis, the father is driven to do the unthinkable, showcasing the extraordinary lengths he will go to fulfill her wishes and find happiness. Directed by Remo D’Souza, watch the film on March 14.

Ponman (March 14 – Jio Hotstar)

Basil Joseph’s comedy entertainer Ponman is all set for its OTT release. The film, directed by Jothish Shankar, will be available on Jio Hotstar from March 14. Adapted from GR Indugopan’s novel Nalanchu Cheruppakar, the film follows Ajesh, a jewelry agent in Kollam who lends gold to brides’ families in exchange for cash received as wedding gifts. When Steffi’s family can only repay part of the debt and keep the rest of the gold for themselves, Ajesh pursues the remaining ornaments.

Cast: Basil Joseph, Sajin Gopu, Lijo Mol Jose, Rajesh Sharma, and Deepak Parambol.

Oru Jaathi Jathakam (March 14 – Prime Video)

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s latest Malayalam romantic comedy, Oru Jaathi Jathakam, will release on Prime Video on March 14. The film revolves around Rajesh, who discovers during a palm reading that a round of bad luck is coming his way. Failing to find the perfect woman to marry, though he is registered in multiple matrimony sites, his horoscope reveals that he is destined for a gay marriage. And so ensues a series of chaos and comedy!

Cast: Vineeth Sreenivasan, Nikhila Vimal, Babu Antony, P.P. Kunhikrishnan, and Mridul Nair.

When Life Gives You Tangerins, Volume 2 (March 14 – Netflix)

Netflix is finally releasing the second volume of the well-received Korean drama When Life Gives You Tangerins on March 14. The series debuted on Netflix with four episodes on March 7.  Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, the series follows the teenage love story of Ae-sun and Gwan-sik, capturing their simple and sweet moments that evoke the charm of retro romance. But the recent volume features both of them in their late 20s as a married couple, hinting at some more romantic chapters.

Moana 2 (March 14 on Jio Hotstar)

The anticipated animation sequel, Moana 2, finally finds its way to the OTT platform. In this sequel, Moana finds herself wanting to complete what her ancestors set out to do—unite all the people of the entire ocean. But a cursed island stands in her way. She reunites with the demigod Maui to break the god’s curse on the hidden island of Motufetu. Watch the animated world of Moana on March 14 on Jio Hotstar.

The Electric State (March 14 – Neflix)

Millie Bobby Brown’s anticipated Netflix apocalyptic thriller The Electric State is finally releasing on March 14.  In a retro past where robots and humans coexist, Michelle is in search of her brother and teams up with a smuggler to find the only family she has left, all while fighting those who view robots as a threat to their existence.  Based on the novel by Simon Stålenhag, the film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.

Cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, and Woody Harrelson.

Azaad (March 14 – Netflix)

Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thandani’s periodic film Azaad is all set to make its OTT debut on Netflix. The plot of Azaad revolves around Govind (Aaman), a stablehand who works for Rai Bahadur, a local landowner who supports British rule. He becomes fascinated with Azaad, a strong and spirited horse owned by rebel leader Vikram Singh (Ajay). After Vikram is killed in his fight against the British, Govind inherits Azaad and becomes entangled in the larger struggle for freedom.
