
Raj And Simran Frozen In Love! DDLJ Statue To Raise In The 'Heart Of London' (X image)
Ever since its release, Kajol-Shahrukh Khan starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) has been capturing hearts. The iconic film with iconic on-screen pairs and iconic songs, is a masterpiece of Aditya Chopra (it was his first film). Making it even more special, Raj and Simran will now be forever etched right in the heart of London.
Marking itself as a timeless symbol of love, DDLJ will be first ever Indian cinema to be honoured in London’s ‘Scenes in the Square’ movie trail in Leicester Square with a bronze statue. The announcement was made by the Heart of London Business Alliance.
The tribute will feature Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s famous pose from the film. The statue is set to be unveiled in Spring 2025, marking the start of the films thirty year celebration. DDLJ has been the showstopper then and it continue to be the show stopper thirty years after.
The beloved duo of Bollywood, Raj and Simran, will now stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Harry Potter and Laurel & Hardy.
Released in October 1995, DDLJ was beyond any box-office hit. The film marked history for India on several occasion. A debutant director, Aditya Chopra, under legendary Yash Raj Films banner, shot the film in just 56 days.
The film follows the journey of Raj and Simran, two young Indian NRI’ in London. The pair fall in love while on a journey across Europe. Interestingly, the lover cross their path for the first time in very Leicester Square, right in the heart of London.
The statue will be placed right outside the Odeon cinema, along the eastern terrace, giving fans a perfect photo-op with their favourite on-screen couple.
“DDLJ is not just a film—it’s a legacy…The statue is a tribute to Bollywood’s global reach and the incredible cultural tapestry that makes London what it is”, said Mark Williams, deputy chief executive of the Heart of London Business Alliance.
Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, echoed the sentiment. “This statue is more than a nod to the past—it’s a celebration of everything ‘DDLJ’ has come to represent: love, dreams, and the timeless power of cinema,” he said. “To be recognized alongside global icons in a city like London—it’s beyond special””, as quoted by media.
