IUML MP PV Abdul Wahab Calls For Urgent Action On Cancer Screening Facilities

In a compelling address to the Rajya Sabha, PV Abdul Wahab, a member of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), underscored the urgent need for enhanced cancer screening facilities across India. He highlighted alarming statistics indicating that one in nine individuals in the country is likely to develop cancer, stressing the necessity for improved early detection and treatment options.

Wahab cited a study from the Indian Journal of Medical Research, revealing that 30% to 50% of cancer deaths could be prevented with timely intervention. He pointed out that early diagnosis significantly reduces treatment costs, making healthcare more accessible and improving overall system efficiency.

To tackle this public health crisis, Wahab proposed several initiatives. He suggested establishing Cancer Screening Kiosks in communities to facilitate initial screenings and raise awareness about cancer symptoms. These kiosks would provide accessible points for individuals to receive information on early detection.

Additionally, he urged for Mobile Cancer Screening Units equipped with diagnostic tools to reach remote and underserved populations, ensuring equitable access to essential healthcare services. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and those in need.

Furthermore, Wahab called for enhancing facilities at Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals to provide comprehensive cancer care services, including screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Strengthening this infrastructure is vital for delivering timely interventions. Wahab emphasised that these initiatives would empower individuals with crucial knowledge about cancer prevention and treatment options. He urged his fellow parliamentarians to support the establishment of robust cancer screening facilities, asserting that collective action is essential in reducing cancer mortality rates and improving the quality of life for countless citizens.
