73 Muslim Families' Homes Demolished In Assam's Goalpara, Allege Only 1-Day Notice Given
Krishnai, Assam: The district administration in Goalpara carried out demolition drives against 73 Muslim families across five villages in Assam’s Krishnai. Bulldozers pulled down the homes allegedly by giving only a one-day notice.
According to the officials, the families bought the land but had not got it converted from agricultural to residential use. Notably, the affected families allege they were informed only one day before the demolitions, leaving them insufficient time to remove their belongings.

The administration took the action following a complaint filed by a land-protection committee, which accused people from other districts of illegally purchasing land and settling in the area.

The demolition of civilian’s house continue unabated despite Supreme Court ruling against executive overreach without proper legal procedures. The absence of a legal notice with specific required timeline before the execution of demolition drive raises concerns about the human rights violations and constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights.
