With BJP MP Om Birla‘s re-appointment as Lok Sabha speaker, her daughter Anjali Birla’s credibility as a civil service officer is cast under aspersion. The vicious trolls and attacks against Anjali Birla began following a social media post accusing she made backdoor entry to Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exploiting her father’s position. Many users on social media carried forward user’s claim launching virulent attack against Anjali Birla.

On a X post dated on June 28, user titled Dhruv Rathee (Parody) remarked that Anjali Birla cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam without even appearing for it. He then suggested that she acquired the post due to Om Birla’s position.

“India is the only country where you can clear UPSC without sitting in the examination. But for that you have to be born as a daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Anjali Birla D/o Om Birla cleared UPSC without giving any examination, she is a model by profession. Modi Govt is making mockery of our Education System,” wrote the user.

In another post, user alleges: “Om Birla’s modeling daughter Anjali Birla suddenly appeared for the IAS exam and became an IAS officer in the first attempt.” In the claims, user alleges whether Om Birla is misusing the power.

Meanwhile, many media establishments conducted fact check on these claims and it came out that these are baseless. Anjali Birla’s name came in the UPSC reserve list, which had 89 aspirants whose names were announced on January 4, 2021 in the website. Her name was at the 67th position in this list.

The reserve list means a second merit list or a waiting list, and it is in accordance with Rule 16 (4) and (5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules,2019. After completing posts from the main list, the remaining vacancies are filled from the reserve list.

Anjali Birla, completed school education from Sophia School in Kota, and graduation from Ramjas College, Delhi.

Currently, she is working in Indian Railway Account Service. As trolls and attacks are continuing at Anjali Birla, Prashant Arora, a colleague of hers extends support to her on X, condemning the “injustice”.
